Tragedy Following an Accident
Thursday late evening, September 17th, a 48-year old man was out for a bicycle ride in Estes Park, Colorado. While many of the details are not clear as of now, reports show the bicyclist was hit by a van at the intersection of Birch and Prospect Avenue, then being pinned under the van until First Responders arrived and extracted the man from under the vehicle. The cyclist did succumb to his injuries after being transported to Estes Park Health. Records show that the 30-year old woman was uninjured and passed sobriety tests at the site of the accident.
Two separate motorcycle accidents occurred Friday evening, September 18th, one in our own neighborhood of Aurora. While both accidents appear to have been caused by a car making a careless left-hand turn in front of a motorcycle, the details of one of the accidents have been kept tight-lipped due to the victim being an officer with the Aurora Police Department. The accident with the most readily available details occurred Friday evening at the intersection of South Aurora Parkway and East Arapahoe Road at about 6:30 p.m. The driver of a Honda Pilot made a left turn from westbound Arapahoe Road, failing to acknowledge the eastbound motorcycle’s right of way. The motorcyclist succumbed to their injuries at the scene according to the police.
Federal Boulevard, in the Berkley neighborhood of Denver, was the scene of the next crash this weekend. Saturday evening Colorado State Patrol responded to a deadly crash involving a car and pedestrian. Reports show that the pedestrian, a 35-year old man, tried to run across Federal and was hit by a vehicle. The 25-year old driver was detained on suspicion of driving under the influence. It was not immediately clear if the pedestrian or driver had the right of way in this location and situation.
Sunday morning brought more heart-wrenching news when a 22-year-old motorcyclist died after being in a two-vehicle crash on I-70 near U.S. 40. I-70 was closed starting at 11:30 a.m. as an investigation began identifying how the 2017 gray Subaru and motorcycle collided. The crash caused many travelers to be re-routed off I-70 as the delays were reaching as far back as the Eisenhower Tunnel.
