In our own neighborhood of Aurora, Colorado, a child was struck by a black sedan early evening of February 4th. Hit and Runs by The Numbers
There are numerous types of hit and runs – hitting a parked, unoccupied vehicle, hitting an occupied moving vehicle, or hitting a pedestrian or bicyclists. Although cowardly, there are also many reasons why a person may flee the scene of an accident from being unaware the accident occurred, the driver could have been underage or under the influence, someone without insurance, or even someone that has a warrant for their arrest. The AAA Foundation reported that in 2015 that were 737,100 hit and runs in the United States and with a 60% growth from 2009 to 2016. They also note that nearly 65% of the fatalities of those hit and runs are pedestrians or bicyclists.
